Oh, I'd love to hear those, you know american pigeons sound different than the ones around here .. at least the ones I heard at Howard's place. I'll try to get some here too then.
Come to think of it ... bird sounds being different was one the things striking me when I was in the us .. it's not so clear to me in Shane's sample though. _________________ Jan

Trust me, birds sound different. That's one of the things I am exploring.
Sorry I haven't posted anything yet. Need to edit down, most of my stuff is long... _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Even here in America, we have different pigeon species that make different sounds. I'm not sure what kind these are, but they make this beautiful low-pitched sound. There is one individual pigeon I've heard several times, lately, who has his own song and it's vaguely similar to a shakuhachi flute, in a way.

So uncanny that you posted that............
I have these same Red-bellied Woodpeckers around my house.
Actually yesterday my wife noticed that a family has home in a tree behind my house. We watched and listened to a baby that can't fly yet, hanging out of the tree communicating with its mother across the woods.
I had intended on going in the house, getting my gear, and making a recording of it... but also taking a picture of it as well to post with the recording. We ran out of time and I didnt get back to it. So , it's kind of funny to wake up and see this posted.
I call these guys the percussionists of the woods! _________________ ElectroCasa |

That's a great description .. "The percussionists of the woods". Well put. I am glad my post was approiate then Shane
Behind my new home is a wild life preserve so the state can not build on this lan. Luck for Robin and I right? Our deck should be finished by the weeks end I hope so more time can be spent back there.
The sub-forum is getting me more and more inspired to make field recordings of natural and industrial settings and incorporate that into genres of electronic/electro acoustic music that I have not done so much of before.
Hope to see your pictures. Hope you can get good ones .... and a recording of course !
Thanks

Wow! NICE! Wild Life Preserve behind your house on Long Island! Best of both worlds eh?
I live on a fairly major river corridor. As you can hear in the recording, I have a lot of bird varieties in my area including eagles, hawks, falcons, and owls. Im especially fond of these big guns ... so fascinating to watch.
I would love to see some of your field recordings on here, most especially for me ... your industrial /urban sounds. I can only imagine all of the sounds and combinations of sounds that you can record living in NY! _________________ ElectroCasa |
