I'm very happy with this one. Every time I start to think I've dried up I pull something like this out of my tired old brain. This one grew pretty easily but it took a couple of days of working between numerous interruptions.
I've been listening to a lot of 1970's Genesis lately, you know, back when they were a progressive art rock band. Back then they used a lot of unusual time signatures. 7/8 was one of their favorites.
I was goofing around with the Microkorg arpeggiator and, sure enough, I could do a cool seven-beat pattern on it. The MK accounts for a few other parts on this but about half of this tune is Microbrute.
I'm getting a lot of use out of that little 'Brute. I had a Minibrute, swapped it for a Microbrute then swapped the Microbrute for a Microkorg XL. After awhile I missed the Microbrute so bad I traded the XL for another Microbrute. I've been using the crap out of it since then.
My rig is pretty much unchanged since the middle of last year: Microkorg, Microbrute, CZ-101 and Microsampler run through a Xenyx 1202 mixer and into a BR-600 digital recorder. Via MIDI I play everything with the MK keyboard. The MS quantizing sequencer can play the MS, the MK and/or the CZ. This set-up is perfect for the way I make tunes.
I even figured out how to drive other boards with the MB step sequencer via a Sonuus G2M audio-to-MIDI converter, but I haven't had a need for it, yet.
