Want to patch together ARP Pro-Soloist kind of sounds? You need several specialist modules, but one thing that has not been available has been their waveshaper: who has a VCO running at 512 times the audio rate which they can divide down and feed into various logic circuits to get "1/14" pulses or "2/11" pulses?

I think I have cracked it: found a way to get the same waveshapes as the Pro-Soloist pulses (indeed, a whole family of waveshapes not just the presets of the ARPs) without the logics and the supersonics.

I got out a logic simulator and plotted what each waveshape did: and I found to my surprise that the common feature was that the phase is varied as well as the pulse width: indeed that seems to be the distinguishing feature, and perhaps explains why no-one gets Pro-Soloist-esque sounds very right. (You can see the simulation and a graphic of the ProSoloist architecture here: https://fricko.home.blog/2019/07/05/pro-pulse-the-backstory/)

[The delayed pulses would presumably have the effect that when remixed with the original saw of slightly increasing or cancelling out and changiing the phase of harmonics that are present in the pulse. (A pulse of 1/n of the cycle has every n harmonics missing in a cyclic spectrum. But because these are delayed by around n, those ) The result, a kind of anti-pulse cyclical spectrum. But different in effect that merely subtracting a same-phase pulse from the saw. ]

Anyway, the PCB and a 6HP Eurorack panel is available now. It also has some other features aimed at making Pro-Soloist-esque patches more straightforward: multiple outputs, an HPF on the mix output, closer to constant-power pulse out, and so on. Notably, it has a calibration pot and blinkenlight, to cope with different signal levels. (You can see the module here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qOdCOYU3jY and I mean 1/5 not 1/12) For non-Eurorackers, the board also can take an MOTM connecter and provides its own 5V. The module home page is https://fricko.home.blog/propulse/

And, yes, if you feed it a triangle or sine, you can get double pulses. (Attached is a sound sample of a drone made by feeding two oscillators into the input and playing with the frequency of one to hear the distortion effect, for the sake of putting some sound up rather than nothing. )

You have a lot of interesting projects on your page, but I am a little confused by the pricing...

1 unit = $31, which would normally make 3 units = $93, but you have a "special discount" to buy three units for $99 (a $6 increase for buying 3)?

Also, how would this "discount" translate to GBP (£)?

Apologies if I'm missing something here, but it seems it would be cheaper to buy 2 items, followed by a third in a separate transaction.

Glad to!

It is because the US$99 includes postage and packaging: the US$31 is exclusive of postage and packaging. So that is a saving of more than US$10 in most cases. The typical postage costs for different regions is given on the page "Price and Purchase".

For UK? AT current exchange rates of USD$99 is £81.90. The typical postage price is GBP £15.45. So 3x £25 + £15.45 = £90.45. So the deal is about £8-50 discount.

Is there something I should improve on the fricko.home.blog website, about this?

Regards
Rick

There is also another deal, which is on the website but I was not going to announce it until the August set of boards and products were in and QAd (I get them tomorrow), but for non-Eurorack developers there is also a deal of four PCBs including postage for USD$99 (i.e. no panels). The new ROHS boards can mostly also take MOTM headers and have holes for mounting, which are the two things that non-Eurorack developers seem to ask for most.
