Arpeggiator question Subject description: how does a hold mode work ? |
|
|
I am working on an arpeggiator and so far it is working fine and it has some different modes that determine the order in which the notes are played.
I'd like to add a hold function so it keeps playing when the keys are released but it doesn't seem to be as straight forward as I'd expected.
If you press a couple of keys and release them, then press some different keys it would be easy to do. So when you release them it keeps playing those
notes and when you press some different notes it plays those. However, say you press 3 keys and release 1 of them, I assume it would keep playing all
the 3 notes but what happens if you then add another note, does it just get ignored ? _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"

Latch mode for arpeggiators normally keep adding notes as long as you hold at least one key down. When you release all the keys, it keeps playing those notes until you press a new key (or chord) - that resets the memory and only the new key(s) will then be held. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

That's a great idea! I haven't ever seen that implemented in an arpeggiator, but it's not like I've used them all. This would go well with an arp that remembers which order you play the keys in, and also random orders, where you increase the likelihood of a specific note sounding. I'd love to see that in my Nord Lead. _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, latch mode will in some cases take that note out of the arpeggio again, instead of adding it twice.
But it's not like there are any standards in place for this stuff. Arpeggiators were originally the poor man's replacement for a sequencer, and strictly speaking, if you could save the arpeggio, who's to say it's not now a sequencer? _________________ Muied Lumens Sub Forum

I currently have:
played in order
played in reversed order
alternate (order <> reversed order)
low-to-high
high-to-low
up/down (low-to-high <> high-to-low)
random
Removing the note was the alternative I had in mind, that could also be very useful.
And yeah, the more I am adding the more it turns into a phogrammable sequencer which I wanted to implement anyway. _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"
