Domestic repertoire is up by 40% ! |

Read this..
Quote: | Phonogram sales in the first half of 2005 confirm domestic repertoire’s strengthened position on the home market with a whopping 40% increase in volume. |
In Norway we are seeing an interesting trend. Imported music from the US and the UK is not selling well at all. Traditionally the "foreign artists" were responsible for 90-95% of the total volume. Instead we are seeing an increasing the interest in local norwegian artists.
Is this a trend seen in other countries like Holland, Belgium, Sweden? Anyone? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Yes, at least here in Finland. Domestic music has always been very popular here for some reason, and the latest statistics I could find (from 2003) indicate a market share of 57%. On top of that, music from countries such as Sweden and Germany seems to be increasingly popular at the expense of Anglo-American stuff. |

dmosc, that might be true.. The US hit machine is making stuff that doesn´t sell as expected over here. "Completely outdated" acts like REM and U2 are still popular though. They sell huge numbers of copies still. It is evidently the R&B, rap and hiphop that doesn´t quite make it. Weird thing is that what doesn´t sell is on the radio all the time. Someone is not getting the message. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

This point has been made several times before me, but it seems to be evident that radio stations that play the same hits over and over again make people so tired that not that many people want to buy recordings of these hits to play them at home. Too much marketing kills the product. |

you heard about the lawsuits against sony? They apparently have some letters from sony reps to DJs and station owners "negotiating" for more airtime. |
