Subject description: Creating chord progressions from loops

Hi All,
I come to the production of electronic music from a midi point of view. Using midi allows me to create chord progressions for an entire song with ease and, with having a wide variety of sound generating plugins at hand, I have no shortage of sounds from which to create these progressions.

But, over the years I have built up a sizable library of loops and one shots, these I have mainly used in samples to create various sounds to use with my midi. I have studied various YouTube techniques for using these samples, but these are mainly dance music and the loop is almost the progression from which an in-key melody and bass are built to make a 'song'.

What I would like to know is a technique for using of-the -shelf libraries of loops in much the same way that I would create a song with midi. Because I have some beautiful guitar melody and chord loops that I would like to build into a pre-existing chord progression.

I would be really grateful for any help and pointers to a more appropriate forum if this is not the place I should be.

Thanks
