ok,
a g2 patch that has a xfade between a g2 classic filter and the evolver.

the first few moments is the g2 filter of the baseline, then goes into evolver, then back to a g2 filter, then a evolver filter with a feedback loop through the g2 for mangling...

this is all coming out of the outputs of the g2 (the evolver is in a send/return config for filter)

Kind of a bad A/B comparison

that's a pretty good study of what the evolver sounds like, imho.

I'm glad you like it ...

the evolver filter is quite evil, it has many sources of distortion (3) and filter feedback (2) - both of which add more character to the filter. I added my own filter feedback in the g2 for even more mayhem ...

it was a simple patch and some random stuff ... but the g2 filter at the beginning has res fully cranked -- in the evolver it is almost 100% and goes all the way ...

the evolver filter is more squelchy than the g2's and phatter ...

Give the forum some time to recover from the server's catastrophe over the weekend...

No, it's gone to /dev/null.

Dasz. Would you please edit that post and reattach the attachment? Thanks.

I once tried to come up with a comparison of the NM1 and the Moog Modular LPF. It's really hard because you have to get the settings on the two filters to sound as close as possible. And what are you comparing anyhow - the sound with no regen - full regen - some undefined point in the middle? Also, in the 70s when there were several Moogs I could play - I remember they all sounded a little different - like Steinway grand pianos or Martin guitars.

Anyhow, the thing that most impressed me in this Moog/Nord comparison was that the oscillators really did sound different. A saw on the Moog sounds very different from a NM.

I did a post of that here on the forum. It's in there somewhere. Maybe from 2003.

That's very interesting. I like those tests. It's so explicit, and more reliable than all the keepsakes I have. Neitherless, your right... a comparison is hard.
Even a comparison of 2 G2 variations, when I try to see what is the parameter I just moved, that changes a little bit the sound.

I came across some of those comparisons in this thread. It's an old topic, number 70. An oldie but a goodie.

Very interesting test. I never could compare that, since it's so difficult to find a Moog Modular. That NM filter is really decent IMHO (especially in comparison with the one of the Arturia). And you're right: the saw is different. It worth working on the saw sound itself, before everything. Thank you very much for that link, Howard.
