I dig it!
We do a lot of gripeing about the music industry, most for good reason. Still, you can buy Beat Amateur's CD at the electro-music.com store. He gets a very big percentage - most of the money - and the rest supports our site.
Forgive the plug, but he's one of us...

Hey Beatster
Yeah, this is quite nice. I'm not a big fan of the sounds you've used - they're a bit sort of basic and computer-gamey for my oh-so-refined tastes. But musically it's really cool.
The main theme is pretty cool. The little xylophone melody which pops up at around one minute is very nice indeed. It's the king of the tune!
I also like the big switch up around two minutes. The chords you use around this time really remind me of Black Dog - if you don't know them, damn well give them a listen!!
I think the triads bit works very well indeed. Nice one.
Keep it up son!

It kind of reminds me slightly of this tune I did a while back.
The story of this tune is that about a year ago I was doing the beats for a hip hop EP. The rappers were starting to get a bit pissy about how long I was taking to produce it all. In particular, I got a voicemail off Ritual giving me shit.
The other rapper, Dermo, is a sound guy and a good mate. I did this song for him, just because he would find it funny. I never sent it to Ritual becuase the song calls him a homo. Hurray!
Beware: really really bad singing. But does have the world premier of rapping by my girlfriend.
Check it out:

Plays ok for me, but then I'm part of the global network of pc domination.
The bit with your girlfriend reminds me that your profile says you're from Bristol. It all makes sense now... |

Mr. Prime, I dig the tune. A real song.
Not too many people writing this stuff. Very nice. I'm a bit envious cause I've never been able to write songs, only abstract music. It's a real toe tapper.
If you were in a band 40 years ago called The Beetles, this song would have been a big hit. |

Not sure what this comment means. Are you dissing the fair home of the Wurzels, and a large population of cider-drinking idiots?
I have a San Fran connection actually, a chap called Mikey who used to live in Brizzle but now lives with his new wife there. He's a DJ or something.
Cheers all for the comments on the song. It was only a very quick messaround track so I'm surprised about the positive comments so thanks.
Re: sound quality of vocals. My SM80 microphone doesn't deliver the world's best sound quality, but my almost total lack of production skills don't help either.
Cheers

No, I was thinking about 'the Bristol sound' and what it would be like to write beats & rhymes in a city with that history (i.e., Massive Attack).
Pardon my ignorance, but what/who are the Wurzels? |

Ha ha! The Wurzels are an old novelty pop group from Bristol. It's kind of hard to explain, but here in the Westcountry of England it's all supposed to be farmers and cider drinking and villages with not enough surnames in the telephone book - you know the sort of thing.
The Wurzels were playing up to that image.
Their most famous song is called "I've got a brand new combine harvester". Said in a proper Westcountry accent, that would be something like "Oi've gaat a braand new comboin aaaarrrvester". |
