Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

DESCRIPTION
binaural fireworks recording

EQUIPMENT
microphone: binaural mic on a stand. Made from a polystyrene display head and 2 electret microphones, amplified by a simple preamp.
recording device: laptop (soundcard isn't really good, but I wanted to try it so I know if I can use it as a portable recording device).

LOCATION
Limburg, The Netherlands.
Recorded outside from my balcony. There's an appartment building across the street which has a big glass front, causing a natural echo/delay.

DATE & TIME
dec 31, 23:50 (11:50 pm) - jan 1, 1:00 (1:00 am)

Hey PHOBoS!! I listened to your fireworks recording today at work and really enjoyed it. Way back when I was a kid (teenager), I bought a Sound Effects record (only one out a series) specifically because it had fire works!!! So, your recording brought back very happy auditory memories!! Thanks for sharing it. I am sure I will listen again, and if its OK with you maybe work it into some of my own music. --Steve

I'm glad you like(d) it steve Smile
And it's nice to hear that it brought back some very happy auditory memories.

Of course you're free to use it in any way you like.
Actually, that's my main reason for posting it, so people can use it for there own purposes.
Just let me now if you do, cause I would love to hear it Wink

Nah .. the source was a track, not a port .. and the track title looks fine.

Nice to see somebody else thinks 4oJ is an interesting subject for phonography. I did mine in 1999:

As you saw, I too have long enjoyed the sound of fireworks. So, thanks for sharing the link to your 1999 album. I am listening now. BTW, I lived in Seattle circa later 70s/early 80s. Not sure if I saw fireworks there; I probably did as I lived on one of the hills and might have had some good vantage points.

I heard a few things in your album that might be nice to try as impulses for convolution reverb. I might try that this coming summer, if you don't mind.

Again, thanks for sharing the album link!

Steve

Oh--there are some more explosions with nice reverberations!!!!!! Smile

Hmmmmm. Just a thought (inspired by Anode's post), maybe an out-your-window fireworks latency mix event--if enough people are close enough to fireworks displays to stream live audio simultaneously? That might be a problem, though--being close enough to stream good-quality live audio at the same time others are doing the same. As I said, just a thought.

Steve

Addendum: Just-A-Thought # 2:
Maybe I can hook up my rarely used PA speakers (with subwoofer) outside on the Fourth and play your [Anode's] album* for all my neighbors to potentially complain about or potentially enjoy.

*I am really enjoying it!
