Starship noise generator |
|
|
For one of my projects (pimped scale model of Battlestar Galactica) I'm looking for a sound generator, that simulates the noise of a starship engine. Something like this here:

My first idea was to use brown noise with a low pass filter. But that might sound to synthetic. A little bit of humming and wobbling would be nice
I have never worked with oscillators or sound ICs before, so I'd appreciate any source of information. |

Using synthesis will involve quite a bit of work. And then it might only be 'close enough.' I would be inclined to just sample the exact sound. You could use this for playback:

build in speaker ? Because in that case it's probably not going to sound very realistic.

It's a big model. I have enough space for a decent bass speaker

Wow that sounds awesome! How did you do this? |

I used (a small section of) this synth and some FX:
a white noise generator going into a 12dB LP filter that's slightly modulated by a triangle LFO
from there it goes into a 12dB BP filter also slightly modulated by a triangle LFO
this is mixed together with a low frequency (audio) sawtooth going through another LP filter, again slightly modulated.
from there it goes into a mixer that has a 3 band tone control with the high frequencies turned down and the low
frequencies turned up and there's some modulated delay/reverb added. And than it goes to my main mixer which
has some build in FX and it adds more reverb. All the modulations add a little bit of variation to it and the reverb adds the space.
I'm no expert in synthesizing sounds just tried what I though would create a similar sound as the video you posted.
You should be able to recreate something like this with wren (if you don't have another synth to try it). _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"
